Debate and Eloquence

Learn more

Every Wednesday at 19:00, we host an event curated for all levels of experience in speaking and debating. We alternate between eloquence and debate sessions.

Eloquence sessions

These events focus on developing public speaking skills based on the five pillars of eloquence: preparation, tone, body language, movement, and confidence. We do this through fun games where members can either participate as a speaker or watch from the audience.

Some favorites include Powerpoint Roulette, where the speaker has to present a randomly chosen powerpoint presentation, and Conspiracy Theory Roulette, in which participants compete to best convince the audience of a conspiracy theory. At the end, board members offer feedback to help improve speaking.

Debate sessions

Our Wednesday debates are catered to all levels of experience, and are more casual than our Fight Club debate sessions on Tuesday. These are made to help with argumentation and critical thinking skills. The debate sessions are typically British Parliamentary style (read more about here), but we also host other types, such as World Schools and walking debates.

Members have the option to participate as a speaker, watch from the audience, or even help judge. Following a debate, our more experienced judges will provide in-depth feedback on the participants's performance.
